Khichdi recipe– a wholesome balanced meal that has carbohydrate, protein, fats, vitamins, and minerals. Khichdi is basically a mixture of Rice, lentils or dal, vegetables of your choice and ghee.

This tasty Thali recipe is contributed by Keerthi  Aravind prepared for her 8-month old baby. The main course is vegetable moong dal Khichdi , Watermelon as fruit, Butter as starter and Homemade curd

Moong dal khichdi recipe for babies

Ingredients

Rice- ½ cup rice

Moong Dal/cherupayar paripp- ¼ cup

Garlic – 1 clove

Jeera/cumin-1/4 tsp

Tomato- 1 small piece

Vegetables like beans, carrot, cauliflower, broccoli , potato , peas- you can add vegetables you like.

Olive oil- 2 tsp

Ghee

Preparation

Wash rice and moong dal thoroughly with warm water

Soak rice and moong dal for 1 hour and drain the water

Heat a pressure cooker and add some oil .

Add garlic and cumin, toss it well

Then add the tomato and all the veggies toss for some time

Add Rice and moong dal and fry it for some time

Add appropriate amount of water to it and close the lid and cook until 2 -3 whistle

After cooking, you can mash it well with a spoon or in a blender .

Serve it with ghee.(optional)

Salt is not recommended for babies under 1 year

Homemade curd Recipe

Boil some milk at early morning and allow them to cool to lukewarm. Add one spoon of curd to it, tightly close the lid, and store in room temperature and by afternoon curd will be ready.
