dahi vada/dahi bhalla easy snacks for kids

Dahi Vada/dahi bhalla are lentil dumplings dipped in yogurt and topped with spicy savory tamarind chutney. An all time favourite of many.This recipe is a simple version of dahi vada that can be  prepared for kids.

Dahi vada/Dahi bhalla recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup Moong dal (yellow)

2 tsp Urad dal (white)

¼ tsp Asafoetida

Salt 1 tsp

Sugar

Red chili powder (a pinch)

Roasted cumin powder

2 cups fresh yogurt (slightly thick)

Half liter water

To garnish

  • ½ cup pomegranate
  • 1 tsp chopped coriander leaves

Method:

  1. Wash and soak moong dal and urad dal together for two hours.
  2. Then, drain off the excess water and grind dal to a smooth paste
  3. Add little salt and Asafoetida to the batter and whisk for 10 minutes.
  4. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai (or any pan) and drop small dumplings (pakodas / vadas) from the batter into it and fry until golden brown.
  5. Drain the dumplings and soak them in sufficient quantity of water.
  6. Leave for 15 minutes. Squeeze the dumplings between your palms to drain out water.
  7. Whisk yogurt well with salt and sugar to taste
  8. Take a bowl, put the dumplings and pour yogurt over it, till the dumplings are fully covered with yogurt.
  9. Sprinkle a pinch of red chili powder and roasted cumin powder.
  10. Garnish with coriander leaves and pomegranate

This is a simple version of dahi vada which is easy to make and delicious
