Anecdotes from Real life between a Parenting Consultant and her daughter #5

As a fresh off the boat mumma, I am constantly in awe of parenting consultants.

They always seem to have the grueling task of raising children well and staying unscathed during the whole process tucked beautifully under their belts.

But how surprised would you be if i told you that parenting consultants are in fact as human as us mamas?

Presenting Jaseena; parenting consultant, mama and her insatiably curious 7 year old daughter – Mahek! Follow this adorable pair in a funny new written series on DrMomZine. Everything from “mama how do you know what i want without asking me?” To “mama, where do babies come from?” dealt with here in the most humorous conversations ever between a mama and her kiddo.

Who said children don’t follow instructions from parents? They do

Between Mahek and Me

We were back at the ophthalmologist’s clinic exactly after a week. This time Mahek was certain that she wouldn’t get my mobile even to look at the picture gallery.

Unable to be amused by the electronics at the ophthalmologist’s waiting room Mahek took to be entertained by the ink of a pen. When I noticed doodles all over her hands I told her.

Me: Oh look at your hands. Whose pen is it?
Pointing out to the empty chair of the doctor’s secretary

Mahek: her’s

Me: don’t take things without asking permission. Keep it back from where you got it.

Mahek throws the pen on the floor and on seeing that mama’s tone rises.

Me: Why did you throw it?

Mahek: what? You asked me to keep it back where i got it from. I got it from the floor mama.

Mama’s tone falls a few degree low
Mama: could you place it on the table please? It would be helpful for her instead of hunting for it. She reluctantly places the pen on the table.

Who said children don’t follow instructions? They follow every word we say.

While issuing instructions to children the choice of words matter a lot. By putting the pen on the floor she was following my instructions ditto “Keep it back from where you got it.”

Instead I should have told her” keep it back on the table.” After all that’s where pens belong. Parents are quite the confusing lot we need an education on the right words to use to children.
